We’ve all been there – sitting on our device scrolling for the perfect yoga video to follow along to so we can start our day off on the right foot. We’re so proud of ourselves for actually deciding to hit the mat today. Next thing we know, it’s been 30 minutes and we still haven’t settled on a flow for the day and we’ve lost precious time that we could have used on our mat.
One thing you can so this doesn’t happen again is to find the flow you want to do the night before. Then make sure you set your alarm for a time that will allow you plenty of time to prepare for the practice and do the practice, if you’re doing it in the morning.
I love practicing first thing in the morning because it’s so easy to find other things to do instead if you wait until later in the day. Over the course of the day, your motivation starts to wane so if you can jump on your mat in the morning, you’ll have a better chance of actually doing it!
Some of the benefits of practicing in the morning may include:
- less anxiety throughout your day
- clearer mind
- deeper connection to Source
- desire to treat your body healthier
- ability to stay more focused
- more likelihood of a positive outlook
Some poses you can add to your morning flow could include:
- gentle seated side stretches in easy seated pose
- cat/cow on hands and knees
- downward facing dog
- 2-3 sun salutation A’s
- warrior 2
- side angle stretch
- goddess pose
