I started live streaming in 2015.

I didn’t really know why I was doing it but I knew that it was something worthwhile because of the connections that were being made. Little did I know everything that would come from it. Since I began, a lot of people have asked me how to begin live streaming. I hope this post helps demystify it a bit!

Live streaming helped me to:

  • Build self-confidence
  • Get over being camera shy or hating seeing myself on camera
  • Be more authentic
  • Get stronger in my beliefs and my purpose
  • Connect with a much larger audience
  • Find and build my tribe

Are you camera shy?

Well, good! You’re like most people then. Most of us regular folk aren’t super excited about hopping on and doing a video that the whole world can see. First of all, the whole world most likely will NOT see it so that’s not really something you need to worry about. Second, if you could get major benefits, shifts and growth personally and in your business, would it be worth it? If so, keep reading!

Live streaming is like anything else we do that causes us fear. The more we do it, the less frightening it becomes. We develop an ease in front of the camera. Yes, it may take a couple months to feel comfortable, but just like teaching a yoga class in front of actual students IRL (in real life), you WILL get comfortable eventually. It just takes practice, a plan and consistency.

Need more self-confidence?

Most of us could use a little more honestly, especially those new to teaching yoga or new to any business. Live streaming will help you practice being confident but in the comfort of your own home! I wouldn’t have ever imagined I could get up in front of yoga teachers and lead workshops on how to build your brand as a yoga teacher if it hadn’t been for live streaming. Every time you do it, you’ll be just that much more confident in your abilities. But you have to stick with it!

Stand in your authenticity.

People nowadays are getting better and better at weeding out fake people and sales pitches. This is really a good thing because it’s much easier to be who you really are than to try to be something you’re not. Once I let go of my ego a bit around this and started offering guidance from the heart, I really started connecting with people. If your focus can be around giving rather than always thinking about you’ll get from it, your business will flourish without a doubt. I encourage you to start stepping into who you really are, show the world, “flaws” and all.

No one wants to get on a live stream and see someone being perfect. Why? Because they can’t relate to perfection. They want to see someone on video that reminds them of their self.

There are also no edits in live streams, what happens, happens! This may sound like a bad thing but it will actually save you tons of time and headaches as opposed to pre-recording everything. You get to roll with it a bit more. You’ll also be able to connect with the audience more when it’s live rather than recorded, there’s just something to be said about the energy of it all.

Get stronger in your beliefs and purpose.

Live streaming will challenge you. Again, people can sniff out when you’re not being authentic and when you’re not speaking your truth. And people may challenge your beliefs too. You have to be strong in why you believe what you do and yet, stay humble. You don’t have to know all the answers and when you don’t know something, admit it!

With live streaming, you’ll undoubtedly start to get comments. You’ll start to see just who you are helping. You’ll discover what you DO like to talk about and what you don’t. What fills you up and what doesn’t.

Stop restricting yourself to where you live.

Live streaming can help you connect to people all over the world. I’ve had students in my programs in England, Thailand, and Australia! Living on a farm in the middle of no where, I never thought I could do something like this. That’s partly why I opened a studio is because I wanted to create that community but now with the power of the internet, there is nothing stopping you from building a huge tribe online. And you can find the people that will benefit from your teachings the most as well as the ones that will fill your cup the most!

I’ve built a large community on Facebook and now use my yoga teaching skills in that group as well as in our paid membership. There’s nothing like live streaming to deeply connect you to your ideal clients!

Good luck on your live streaming journey! If you’re serious about building and connecting to your perfect client, stop with the excuses and start today!
